So you have a business. So you get a website. So you have a business and so you need traffic. Well stop thinking your new website is going to get you all that traffic just because it’s up on the World Wide Web.

Maintaining a small business or corporate website is just a part of Internet marketing. Business owners should leverage the internet to promote their brands and convert traffic into profit. Companies also sign up with social networks to communicate with their consumers. However this is not done for the grace of getting to know customers it is simply done to make the customers more comfortable with the brand. Businesses use social media to entice clients. Communication is easier with social media between business owners and consumers. If planned and executed properly your digital marketing plan can be fruitful and reach far beyond the reaches of your geographical market. The sooner a business owner acknowledges that a digital marketing plan is an essential element of growing a business the sooner that business owner can start building the right team to help him play this digital game of cat and mouse.

Blogs are a great way to test-market a brand new product or acquire your brand image by conversing informally with your clients. Don’t be lame about your content. Posting your latest item or ad won’t convince your media glutton clients that they should pay attention to you. Your content must help build your brands image and message. Don’t assume these customers are unsophisticated about their media consumption, it’s coming at them 24/7. Traveling at light speeds, if your content is arriving by horse and carriage your potential customers won’t even notice you out there.

Repeat after me. CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT……

Now go rework your budget to include the right professional to handle your digital marketing and social media marketing needs. An intern from Craigslist just won’t cut it.

If the online marketing bug has already bitten you then you must have stumbled upon the terms white hat, grey hat and black hat SEO techniques once or twice. These are the techniques employed when trying to get on top of your competitors. All three SEO techniques have their own pros and cons and the end result will solely depend on how much risk you are willing to take.

Apparently, the fastest way to the top is the black hat SEO technique, although online marketing strategists are strongly against it and would not advise anyone to use it especially when starting out. You’ll know when a website is practicing the black hat when there’s too much of a certain word or phrase that it has become impossible to read the content anymore. Another strong indication would be links that lead viewers to pages totally unrelated to the site. These practices can get the website banned from most search engines especially to the very scrutinizing eyes of Google.

On the other hand, white hat SEO techniques abide by the principles of truth and honesty. White hat practitioners believe that staying true will get them to the top and best of all, be able to remain there longer than anyone else. White hat strongly supports quality content for their viewers to make them come back for more. Keywords are used to enhance the website’s content. Links are also used only when it is necessary and related to the website. Although white hat involves time and energy investment, the beauty of it is, it tends to be stickier and you won’t risk getting banned.

Online marketing can be tricky for many but when you finally get the hang of it, you’ll soon notice that it is not that hard to do albeit time consuming. In reality, the only thing that should make you wonder before trying your hand at online marketing is the fact that it constantly evolves and you should be able to keep up with it otherwise, you’ll be left behind. Fierce competition is to be expected but there’s a lot of space to go around for everybody. Aside from that, it takes insurmountable amount of time scouring the internet for latest online marketing trends and let me tell you, it can get dirty down there!

Despite all these, online marketing is fun and very rewarding too. Best of all, it can be done by virtually everyone, young and old, rich and poor. In fact, many have given up on their 9-5 jobs after seeing the huge opportunities that await them online. It has also paved the way for moms who spend their days at home to earn some cash without breaking their everyday routine. Although new techniques are developed by the minute, two of the most effective ways in reaching your market are through emails and of course, through social networking sites. Social network marketing being the fastest growing online marketing tool because of it’s powerful effects in reach a mass number of people in a short amount of time. If you are thinking of power boosting your online marketing strategy, go for brand improvement that will make your market solicit advice from you rather than you shoving them your brand. This way, they will take time to know your brand and eventually see why they need to support it.

When looking for a web designer and programmer to develop your website you should look for professionals whose core business is developing custom and fully interactive web sites. They will develop your company’s brand identity and integrate a custom design around it. Proper application of the following will ensure your website stands the best chance possible to stand out from the crowd:

    * Web best practices for solid on-site search engine optimization

Most companies have now adopted a social media presence for the purpose of brand building. Top social platforms being used on a daily basis include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and blog platforms such as blogspot, wordpress etc.
Amongst the leading industries now adopting social media strategies advertising, marketing and communications are in the forefront. The obvious evolution of these industries into social media platforms has seemed slow paced for the smaller firms who once believed classic advertising would suffice, leaving the social media to the big dogs of these industries.

Present day marketing strategies will fall short without a social media attack. There is just no way to escape the value and benefits of a strong social media presence these days. Larger corporations were quick to the draw because they have the dollars that allow for proper management and support of such social media campaigns. Smaller organizations choosing to get their social media done by interns will fall short in the long run as the proper execution of social media marketing requires a knowledge base and proper supervision. An unskilled intern will not be measuring ROI and not concerned with proper execution of your strategic plan, school credit will be their main focus. Do yourselves a favor, find the budget for skilled social media professionals, your ROI will thank you later.
